TJ Maxx Hits Social Media


T.J. Maxx has always been a place that I shop. Although Marshalls is a part of the TJX brand, I would like to focus specifically on TJI like that I can get department store brands at a discounted rate. I shop here when I am looking for a steal on some nice products. My product search ranges from clothes and shoes, to bags, makeup, and other accessories. I absolutely love that I can always find some name brand favorites. T.J. Maxx has not been a retail store that I have followed on social media, or ever seen promoted on social media sites as I have with all of my other favorite retail shops. Recently though, they have hit the social sites in a pretty major way.

With everything going on in Puerto Rico after the recent Hurricane Maria tragedies, they have recently come out in the media as being known as one of the few stores that are continuing to pay their employees although they have not been open for business. This has caused a chain reaction of posts on social media. Many Puerto Rican celebrities and even a few who are just close to the cause, have reposted and showed support for T.J. Maxx for doing this. It has been nearly two months and many of their employees are out of work and even electricity, and they have continued to issue paychecks regularly. A spokesperson of the stores have stated that they simply believes it is the right thing to do, and in doing so, they have gained many supporters of the brand world wide.

This is one of the first times I have ever seen T.J. Maxx being talked about on social media. Until then, I was even unaware of them having any social media presence. Since then, however, I have looked more into it and they actually have some unique strategies. One of the first strategies that have been successful for them is making the term Maxxinista cool. This term is used to describe one who is a loyal shopper at TJ Maxx. This person finds unique and original designer items at a discounted price. This has been paired with a new hashtag that has been created #Fabfound, which is designed to be used when one finds a great bargain in stores.This is a very unique way to get people around the idea of them being a "discount store" and any negative connotations that have been associated with this. It turns this into something to brag about and share with friends to encourage them to shop at TJ Maxx for great bargains as well. Using this hashtag can win customers a gift card and there are different platforms on which this weekly contest is featured on.

Firstly, Instagram is probably the best platform for this contest. This is because fashion is such a visual thing and Instagram is the best place to show of photos.It is also extremely easy to search and track the success of the hashtag here.

Pinterest is also a great campaign for this contest considering its' visual benefits. It is very easy for users to devote a pin or board to the contest by simply using the hashtag, or even titling a board with the hashtag and posting all of the relevant pictures for the hashtag. Their target audience is also women, so this makes Pinterest even more ideal considering mostly women use it.
